Kahl am Main, January 27, 2006 - According to preliminary results for 2005 the SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG (SINGULUS) achieved revenues of € 244.2 million (previous year: € 439.5 million) and is therefore in-line with its own forecast. Compared with the previous quarter the net cash position rose slightly from € 53 million to about € 57 million.
After a weak start SINGULUS recorded an order intake of € 248.5 million in total for the business year 2005 (previous year: € 417.6 million). The order intake in the fourth quarter 2005 was particularly favorably. At € 70.3 million it was 75 % higher than the € 40.3 million of the fourth quarter 2004 and also higher than the previous quarter (€ 65.1 million).
In 2005 SINGULUS was able to position itself excellently for the storage formats HD DVD or Blu-ray of the third generation. Since summer 2005 nearly 2/3 of all SPACELINE lines have been delivered as combined DVD/HD DVD lines already. This means that the DVD producer is able to switch its production to HD DVD at any time. SINGULUS is the first European supplier of lines being able to record several Blu-ray machines in pilot production. Accordingly, SINGULUS is excellently positioned for a successful continuation of its market leadership for the new format generation as well.
At the end of December the break-through for TIMARIS machines was achieved. The first order for the application area of thin film heads for read/write heads was recorded. With this first order, SINGULUS’ coating technology succeeded in overcoming the high entry barriers in the semi-conductor industry.
