SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG, Kahl/Main, far exceeded expectations in 2000 with record sales of approx. 730 million DM (unaudited). By now the largest company in the industry, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES was not only able to maintain, but even expand its world market leadership in CD and DVD replication lines.
Net income for 2000 should double the prior year's 46.5 million DM, and is expected to approach 100 million DM (unaudited). SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES will surely be among the most profitable corporations on the NEMAX 50 of the Neuer Markt.
Following uninterrupted and at times erratic growth during the past 5 years, the company now concludes that there will be a leveling in the course of business. The principal reasons for this are attributed to the decline in the Far Eastern markets of Hong Kong and Taiwan, currently distinguished by overcapacity. The line business in China, Europe and the U.S. is proceeding normally.
Nevertheless, assessments of mid-term growth in the opitcal disc replication line business continue to be very positive. The increasing acceptance and market penetration of DVD for video applications as well as DVD-ROM for game consoles such as SONY's Playstation 2 and MICROSOFT's X-Box will call for increasing worldwide expansion of production capacity in coming years. As a result of its leading market position, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES' participation will be above average. The MODULUS line introduced in 2000 will also enable the company to successfully access the latest business sector for rewritable CD-RW and DVD-RW/RAM.
In terms of annual net income, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES can be expected to continue to rank among top earners in the Neuer Markt's NEMAX 50.
