SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES is acquiring 100% of the shares of e-mould GmbH, Aachen from the German Securities and Exchange Holding Company AG (DEWB AG) retroactive to October 1, 2001. The acquisition will be settled as a cash transaction. Founded in 2000, e-mould currently has approx. 40 employees.
The acquisition of e-mould will enable SINGULUS to secure control over the very important injection molding process step for optical discs. The injection molding machine known by the brand name EMOULD Roboshot is built on a base machine manufactured by FANUC, the global leader in electromechanical injection molding machines. The Japanese company FANUC has exclusively transferred the long-term worldwide use of its machines for optical data storage to e-mould.
With e-mould, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES will have another core competence in addition to metallizing. Expertise in injection molding will provide an opportunity to independently advance the technology for complete replication systems. The technical superiority of electromechanical injection molding machines over the hydraulic design, coupled with the leading technology of SINGULUS replication lines, provides a significant strategic competitive advantage for all current and future optical disc formats.
As an associated company of SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG, e-mould GmbH will operate with its own management team under the name "SINGULUS e-mould". As in the past, OEM business with independent customers will be deliberately and actively pursued. The company headquarters will remain in Wuerselen near Aachen.
