The development phase of the SUNLINE replication line for rewritable discs (CD-RW and DVD+RW, DVD-RW and DVD RAM formats) has been successfully concluded. As a result, SINGULUS is able to offer a turnkey replication system (metallizer + system + process) for all existing rewritable formats.
The first complete SUNLINE system was sold to a European customer within the framework of a major order valued at approx. 10 million Euro and has brought the market introduction of this strategically important new development to a successful close.
We expect clear growth in the new business segment of rewritable CD-RW and DVD+RW, DVD-RW and DVD-RAM formats through the additional sales of MODULUS systems in combination with SUNLINE replication lines. The potential volume in the rewritable DVD consumer market for video and PC applications is substantial. The worldwide introduction of the first DVD recorders by PIONEER, PHILIPS, PANASONIC and other manufacturers, which were spotlighted during their European debut at this year's Broadcast Exhibition in Berlin, will hasten the replacement of the analog video cassette and VCR by rewritable DVD and its digital quality. The sale of the first SUNLINE as well as additional MODULUS systems to customers including our key account PIONEER, fortifies our strong position in this new growth market.
