SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES to Strengthen Position of New Thin Film Coating System for MRAM Wafer Fabrication with Strategic Partner
January 19, 2005

The Managing Board of the Kahl/Main-based SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG has appointed Lazard Investment Bank to identify a partner with experience in the semiconductor industry with whom it can forge a strategic alliance for its MRAM (Magnetic Random Access Memory) manufacturing technology. This new partner should improve SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES’ competence, particularly in sales, thus accelerating the commercialization of its recently completed TMR (Tunnel Magnetic Resistance) thin film coating systems for MRAM wafer and thin film head production. Roland Lacher, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES CEO: “Our strategy is based upon compelling technology. We are very confident that this step will expand our customer access within the semiconductor industry and a strategic alliance will allow us to make further advances.

SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES launched its MRAM development in 2002 based on the company’s technological competence in thin-film deposition in the field of optical data storage.

MRAM consists of a new „non-volatile“ form of storage which, unlike conventional DRAM, does not lose stored information when deprived of a power source. An MRAM chip also uses less energy than a DRAM element leading to industry expectations for revolutionary advances in computer technology, particularly for laptops and “smart hand-held devices such as PDAs, UMTS cell phones, etc.

The semiconductor industry expects MRAM to play a pivotal role in the data storage market of the future.
