SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES Strengthen Sales Activities of New In-Line Optical Coating Technology.
SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG, Kahl/Main, intensifies its agenda for expansion into new markets: the first OPTICUS machine has been delivered following a successful trial and optimization phase. Jointly developed with a key customer, the line employs automated in-line process technology for coating eyeglass lenses.
“We developed this technology along with Rupp+Hubrach and optimized the process cycle times during the second half of 2004. We have thereby laid the cornerstone for the expansion of our in-line technology into new areas of application, commented Roland Lacher, CEO of SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG. Delivery of the first line is expected to result in initial sales and earnings contributions for fiscal 2005.
SINGULUS’ in-line process, which is well known by the mass production of CDs and DVDs, automates the manufacturing process of optical lenses resulting in cost advantages for the customer. “Having utilized our in-line vacuum coating competence, we can now offer distinct production advantages to customers in the ophthalmics industry, remarked Roland Lacher. SINGULUS identified the optical coatings market as one of the most attractive potential business opportunities for a diversification. Due to age demographics the market for eyeglasses will grow steadily worldwide. Annual sales of coated eyeglasses lenses today exceed 70 million in Western Europe and now top 25 million in the US.
