SINGULUS Presents New Production System for 3-Dimensional Substrates

SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG, the world market leader in optical disc manufacturing systems has already an installed base of over 5000 coating systems. SINGULUS today introduces the "SINGULUS 3DS", an innovative system for the decorative coating of plastic and metal parts. The first SINGULUS 3DS has already been delivered to a key customer. The machine passed already successful the acceptance test and is currently being commissioned at the production site for mass production.

The system represents a revolutionary new development in the field of PVD surface coating. The application of decorative surfaces on three-dimensional plastic parts in a vacuum can be controlled and reproduced by the sputtering process employed in the SINGULUS 3DS. Applications run the gamut from premium cosmetics packaging to components for consumer electronics and appliances.

The SINGULUS 3DS offers considerable advantages over conventional processes such as galvanization or vacuum deposition.

This technology, referred to as clean compared to electroplating, completely forgoes the use of environmentally-harmful chemicals. The elimination of high operating and waste disposal costs provides a viable production alternative for decorative surface finishing.

In comparison to the vapor deposition process still limited to batch-mode operation, the revolutionary SINGULUS sputtering technology offers an enormous reduction in manufacturing and logistics costs. The unique SINGULUS 3DS sputter technology can be used to apply all conductive and high melt-point materials. Hence, the selection of surface properties, colors, and hues available to users is much greater on a SINGULUS 3DS than on a vapor deposition system.

This process will provide operators access to entirely new fields of application and allow them greater flexibility when responding to the requirements and wishes of a diverse customer base.
