Kahl am Main, August 25, 2008 - SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES (SINGULUS) starts the market introduction of the new inline coating technology for silicon solar cells at the 23rd European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition in Valencia, Spain.
The new inline coating machine named SINGULAR has a capacity for the production of silicon solar cells in excess of 3000 wafer/h. With the vacuum coating process known from the DVD production the production of anti-reflective layers on solar wafers will be fully automated. Due to the extremely high quality of the anti-reflective layer in the nanometer range, the light transmission and passivation characteristics will be improved and therefore the energy efficiency of the finished cells will be increased.
With this step SINGULUS develops a completely new work area in the solar market, which continues to grow at significant double-digit rates. The SINGULAR machine, which will be manufactured at SINGULUS in Kahl, is the logical addition to the front end area. It ties directly to the value-added chain of the SILEX machine by STANGL. The SILEX cleans silicon solar cells before
the coating process.
STANGL and SINGULUS will consistently expand the solar activities. SINGULUS expects initial sales and earnings contributions from the new machine technology from 2009 onwards.
Short Profile SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES is the global market leader for optical disc production line for CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray Discs and is the only provider to offer the complete product range: mastering, molding and replication lines. In addition to the further development of the core activities Optical Disc, the diversification into the work area Solar is the most important strategic target.
STANGL and SINGULUS will consistently expand the Solar activities. Today STANGL is one of the few suppliers of wet-chemical machines for crystalline silicon solar technology as well as for the thin-film solar technology with annual growth rates of more than 40 %. SINGULUS will present its own solar coating machine in 2008 already, which is based on the know-how from the core activities Optical Disc. For this the experience and market insight of STANGL is drawn upon. In March 2008, Q-Cells, the global leader for the solar cell production, was won as a partner and key customer for the development of this new machine.
Combined with the machines offered by STANGL and SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES, two important equipment groups for crystalline solar cells will be offered with the wet-chemical and vacuum coating technology. The goal is to globally expand the position for production equipment for crystalline solar cells in the next couple of years.
