SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES Announces Super Audio CD Manufacturing Line
October 01, 2002

SINGULUS announces the development of a commercial available SACD production line for the manufacturing of Super Audio Hybrid discs. This SACD production line is a multi-functional line, capable of SACD Hybrid manufacturing as well as DVD-5/9/10. The Turnkey Production System consits of two moulding machines, a Plasma surface treating device, two metallizers, a bonder, an UV curing device, an integrated lacquering unit as well as an inline inspection system. The average cycle time is approximately 6 seconds.

“This introduction is an important milestone and is clearly a major step forward in the maturating world of Super Audio CD Hybrid. It offers immediate opportunities for replicators who want to jump on the bandwagon of the new and exciting developments in the Audio industry,? said Jos Bruins, Philips’ Marketing Director for the Super Audio format. “Considering the growth of volume and number of album releases, we foresee an enormous potential for these lines. The commercial availability of a SACD Hybrid manufacturing line will further stimulate the fast-growing demand for hybrid Super Audio CDs. We are happy with the support that SINGULUS is providing to the SACD business.?

“We are very happy to cooperate very closeley with Philips and some of our key customers on the upcoming SACD Format, as we´re convinced of the prosperous future of this new optical disc media. Being an early adopter in this new technology with our SPACELINE SACD replication line, SINGULUS again shows it´s capability of managing technical challenges according to our customers needs in a very short period of time,? says Reiner Seiler, Executive Vice President of SINGULUS.

The hybrid Super Audio CD disc offers forward and backwards compatibility in the consumer market place because this disc combines a standard Audio CD layer and a high density DSD layer. The CD layer plays back on all CD supporting platforms, while the DSD layer can be played back on SACD supporting players, such as on a stand alone SACD player or a DVD/SACD combination set.

Super Audio CD Technology Brings an Ultimate Sound Experience in Both Stereo and Multi-Channel
Super Audio CD, developed by Philips and Sony, is the evolution to the CD offering ultimate sound quality in both stereo and multi-channel surround while maintaining complete backwards compatible, via hybrid disc, with all existing audio CD players. It uses the latest DSD (Direct Stream Digital) technology to deliver superior sound reproduction to the listener, with the ability to render all the nuances of a live concert performance. This technology closely reproduces original analog waveforms, generating a clearer, more natural sound that's designed to capture the emotional impact of the source material with outstanding realism.

SACD offers consumers an unmatched capability to reproduce the original source with state-of-the-art fidelity. Super Audio CD has wide support from professional audio companies, as well as major music labels. There are about 850 SACD titles available worldwide with over 1000 to be expected by the end of this year.

SACD format has a worldwide industry support from leading consumer electronics companies, major music labels, professional companies and studios and world class disc production companies.
