Since the 1985 introduction of the single disc coating concept, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES and former Leybold delivered more than 5000 metallizers, spanning six machine generations. SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES is one of the few companies in the world with a core competence in the metallization of optical discs.
SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES offers one common machine design: the SINGULUS V. This concept can be delivered with two types of cathodes: the FOCUS CATHODE and the SMART CATHODE (a secure design). The SMART CATHODE has an electrically-driven superimposed magnetic field allowing the sputter behavior to be controlled and changed to cope with all requirements. This cathode can be run for different purposes, with different materials, and it is designed to sputter different uniformities.
Three years after its introduction, this machine still offers up-to-date technology. Continuous improvements have been made to the metallizer since its introduction to the market and it is now more compact and faster than ever. The SINGULUS V metallizer can be used in all major areas of optical disc replication, such as CD, CD-ROM, CD-R, DVD R and all prerecorded DVD formats.
The SINGULUS V is specially designed for easy and fast integration into any replication line. For the new dual layer DVD Recordable business, for example, SINGULUS offers an integration of such stand-alone machines for adaptation into the line. “We have come up with a new concept for dual layer DVD+R which requires three metallizers to be integrated into one line� says Martin Poellmann, Product Manager Metallizer SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES. “We have the identical metallizer used for different layers, for different purposes installed at different positions on the line�. With easy operation at high yields and high reliability, the system continues the SINGULUS metallizer legacy.
