SINGULUS OMP, Best, Netherlands, a wholly-owned subsidiary of SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG, Kahl/Main, Germany, introduced the innovative new DMS EVOLUTION mastering system in January 2003. The system has already been sold to three customers in Europe and Asia.
The DMS EVOLUTION can now produce disc masters for all CD and DVD formats in a single mastering suite. Extensive detailed improvements have been made with support from the SINGULUS parent company including a re-designed, integral metallizer (sputtering module). As the mastering system’s primary component, the laser beam recorder has been completely re-engineered for DVD applications. The DMS EVOLUTION system is therefore particularly well suited for use in the prerecorded DVD, recordable DVD-R, and rewritable DVD-RW growth markets. SINGULUS OMP expects to rapidly achieve 30 % of the world market with this new product.
Background Information
On January 1, 2002, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES AG acquired all shares of Optical Measuring-Equipment & Projects (OMP), Best/Netherlands. With the acquisition of OMP, SINGULUS TECHNOLOGIES complemented its optical disc replication system business with the vital preceding mastering process. The assimilation of the entire chain of replication processes will provide the company with an important competitive advantage for current as well as future disc formats.
OMP designed its first mastering system in 1994 and now contributes its matured process and systems technology to the SINGULUS group. The OMP management has been engaged in optical media technology ever since their former association with PHILIPS Research Laboratories in Eindhoven.
Mastering is the process by which digital music/data/video information is transformed into pits on a glass master. The stampers for disc replication created from this master via galvanic forming are inserted into the mold in the injection moulding machine, and are the source of a disc’s unique digital content.
